President Biden reverses attempt at Title X restrictions

update, President Biden has reversed the attempted changes to the Title X program:

“The American Medical Association (AMA) strongly applauds the Biden administration’s decision to consider reversing the Trump administration rule that imposed drastic changes on the Title X program. This is an important first step toward restoring access to comprehensive care for the millions of low-income and uninsured patients who depend on Title X for family planning services. It would also mean the government will no longer inappropriately interfere in the patient-physician relationship, and physicians will no longer be forced to violate the ethical standards of the medical profession. “Title X has an essential role in ensuring that all Americans – regardless of their location or economic situation – have access to quality, evidence-based reproductive health care. We look forward to the potential implementation of the reversal that will enhance patient care, protect physicians, and improve the health of our nation.”

The American Medical Association (AMA) today petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to review a Court of Appeals decision upholding a 2019 Trump administration rule that imposed drastic changes on the Title X family planning program, inappropriately interfering with open communications between patients and health care professionals. The AMA’s petition was joined by Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Essential Access Health (EAH), the Oregon Medical Association and others.
